What is Technical Diving?
Why should I do Technical Diving?

Technical diving is essentially where you exceed your NDL (No Decompression Limits) or enter overhead environments such as Caves or Mines. Why? Contradiction to what you may believe technical diving isn't "scary, dark, deep' dives, a good example to use for you will be a dive site many of you will have been to on a Canary Trip, The Mv Karwela Wreck in Gozo! This is a fantastic dive but as you know due to the depth we don't get very long there before having to head back, as a technical diver on this site you could spend a longer amount of time properly exploring the wreck enjoying the dive to its fullest before heading over to the reef to enjoy looking at the fish whilst on your decompression stops, sounds nice eh?

Technical Diving is something that requires gaining substantial experience between each level before moving further and not pushing your limits. Technical diving isn't bounce diving to an arbitrary number to look at a bit of sand for a minute then spend several hours on a line, in fact Canary despise this kind of behaviour as its reckless, dangerous and gives serious misconceptions to what technical diving is. Technical Diving is making some extraordinary dives to fantastic places, along with making the most out of dive sites you already know and love.

What Courses Do Canary Divers offer?

Canary Divers offer Technical Diver Training from entry level through to full Trimix courses, and with our training partners we can offer all levels of technical training including Rebreather training on lots of popular units such as (Poseidon, VMS, JJ and AP) we can also offer Cave Diver training too!

Where to start? Not sure if Technical Diving is for You?

The Technical Basics and Rescue course is the starting block is a not a technical course as it doesn't allow you any decompression or any depth progression, it does however cover the fundamentals of Technical Diving, from how to set up your equipment, how to plan technical dives, Technical diver skills even rescue procedures in technical diving. At Canary Divers we recommend this course to ANY avid diver, even if your not interested in technical diving this course will improve your diving skill base and we can guarantee you will learn something new that will add to your diving SAFETY. If your not sure if technical diving is for you then this course is perfect and will answer all your questions. the pre-requisites for this course are: You will need to be a qualified Rescue Diver or higher, You will need to be at least 16 Years old and you will need to have a variety of diving experience such as diving in the sea, lakes, good visibility, bad visibility etc. Technical Diver Training

The Coronavirus emergency has caused significant issues across the world. Canary Divers managed to remain open until the Prime Minister announced ‘stay at home’. It is only right that we now support the national strategy to be distant until the virus is beaten. It is sad also that all the inland dive sites have closed for the time being.

The latest version of the national magazine, Scuba Diver, contains an article about The Youth Diver Network. Canary Divers is foremost in developing the network and we have our own Youth Membership. Recently our Youth Ambassador, Sophie O'Dea gave a presentation to over 200 students encouraging them to get involved as well.

Pool Sessions continued to be very busy during early March, but of course have now stopped as well As many of you know, many participants come to the shop prior to the pool session so that they can meet their trainer, go through any questions about the theory work, look at equipment and even just socialise with other divers.

We were fully booked for every Thursday night!

Canary Divers are proud to announce that we received the award for 15 Years of Outstanding Service to PADI. Kris Fearnley attended a reward ceremony at the Go Dive Show in Coventry. Emily Petley-Jones, who is the Regional Manager for PADI presented a trophy which is shaped like a dive cylinder and is now proudly displayed in the shop.

February 21-23 saw a team of us at the Dive Show in the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. We had a great time setting up our stand on the Friday and networking with other trade representatives. We then spent two days talking to entrants and selling all our goods.

Sophie, our Youth Diver Ambassador, spent time interviewing Monty Halls, Andy Torbet, Mark Evans and Jack Snively. She was able to enthuse about diving in general, our club and our training courses.

Pool Sessions started at the beginning of February. We have been so fully booked that last Thursday we had 39 people in the pool! We are now fully booked for every Thursday night until April, with only a few spaces left during April - so get in fast!

We have had all sorts of training take place so far this year. A classroom based course for First Aider and Oxygen Provider, Equipment Specialist and an Advanced Dive Planning Workshop. Of course we also continue to train in Open Water; the picture shows Charlotte gaining her 50th dive as part of her Master Scuba Diver qualification.

We have started to have our social evenings based at the shop cafe. This provides a more social atmosphere for us to look at demonstrations of equipment in a venue we all know well. Last Friday, 6 March, Mares presented some of their new pieces of equipment along with some of their highly successful old reliables. This was a fantastic event full of keen members catching up and exploring the Mares equipment with a special one night only price!
